Got a little tip for you all that is super easy to apply but very affective when it comes to staying on track with nutrition and finding the motivation to workout.
We can all get motivated to START something new...but it's discipline that keeps us going. So, something I usually noticed is that just when we think we are in a groove something derails us…it could be stress, the excitement as wore off, we feel we aren't getting results fast enough or life just feels too busy. Our workouts start to fade and old habits try to sneak back in.
So, I want to give you this tip that has really played an instrumental part in my success over the years and I notice myself leaning on it even more than ever these days...the 5 Minute Rule…learned it from Chalene Johnson, love her! This 5 Minute Rule is something I apply when I don't feel like working out or I am craving Mexican food for dinner or the kitchen is calling my name after a stressful day. When that doubt or temptation starts to creep in I give myself 5 MINUTES to see if I still feel the same.
So, on the days I don't feel like working out. I say to myself," just do it for 5 minutes Kristin.
If you still don't feel like it after 5 minutes then you can quit!" I have RARELY been 5 minutes into a workout and wanted to quit. I am usually enjoying an attitude adjustment before the 5 minute mark even hits. During times when Greg is deployed I can find myself worn out and stressed.
I am usually not a stress eater but it can creep in. Seems like I was using that 5 Minute Rule constantly, but it saved me a lot of empty calories. When I am tempted to dig into that left over pizza or cookie cake I got the kids as a treat, I set the kitchen timer for 5 minutes. Then, I dig deep into my WHY. I think about you guys. I think about how I would want my kids to handle stress. I think about how I want to feel when Greg when I go out on a date. Nine times out of 10 I walk away without even thinking twice.
Hope that tip helps you as much as it has helped me!
